XTERRA Lake Tahoe

Off-road TRIATHLON

We are not scheduling a 2025 event:

Unfortunately, Nevada State Parks and Nevada Public Works have recently determined that several trails in the Spooner Backcountry, including those used by the XTERRA Lake Tahoe bike course, will be closed for the season. We have also explored all possible options for rerouting the course.

This is due to the impact of the Marlette Lake Dam Resilient Infrastructure Project on the trails and roads near the project site.

2025 will mark the third time since 2001 that XTERRA Lake Tahoe has not been held. We also did not hold the event in 2020 due to COVID-19 and in 2021 because of the Caldor Fire.

We look forward to the 2026 XTERRA Lake Tahoe, one of the world’s most iconic endurance events.

You may be interested in the XTERRA Tahoe City event on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

This is the all-time classic off-road triathlon course. Racers begin with a 1,500-meter swim from a sandy beach in Lake Tahoe, one of North America’s purest and deepest lakes.

The bike stage tests racers’ skills and fitness levels. It starts with a gradual sandy climb up Tunnel Creek. After emerging from Tunnel Creek, racers join the epic Flume Trail, which hugs the mountainside and offers stunning views of Lake Tahoe. They continue past Marlette Lake and descend a somewhat rocky and fast section of the Tahoe Rim Trail. The XTERRA, XTERRA Sprint, and XTERRA Aquabike cover 22 miles on the bike and feature approximately 4,000 feet of climbing.

The running course offers a 5K loop featuring minimal elevation gain that winds through scenic areas filled with aspens and pines. It features a few creek crossings along the way.
