XTERRA Lake Tahoe
We are not scheduling a 2026 event.
The XTERRA Lake Tahoe event first took place in September 2001, then known as the XTERRA USA Championship. Tahoe proudly hosted the event from 2001 until 2008, creating lasting memories for all involved. In 2009, the Utah Sports Commission welcomed the USA Championship event to Snowbasin Resort, where it remained until 2021.
Big Blue Adventure has been a passionate part of this journey from the very beginning. From 2009 to 2025, Big Blue proudly operated XTERRA Lake Tahoe as a regional qualifier, helping it grow and thrive.
Looking ahead to 2026, XTERRA Sports Unlimited decided to significantly increase the licensing fee. Unfortunately, this change has led many regional event producers, including Big Blue Adventure, to conclude that the new fee isn’t financially sustainable.
As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to put the XTERRA Lake Tahoe event on hold for 2026. However, we remain optimistic about future opportunities and hope to work creatively with XTERRA Sports Unlimited to bring a Tahoe event back.
We are also exploring the idea of giving the event a fresh new name, perhaps The Flume Trail Triathlon, to highlight one of the course’s most iconic features. We believe this could be a wonderful way to honor the region’s natural beauty.
The XTERRA Lake Tahoe race is renowned for its one of the best off-road triathlon courses in the world. We feel incredibly privileged to have hosted this event and welcomed all the wonderful athletes who have competed here in beautiful Lake Tahoe.

Please join us for the Tahoe Off-road Triathlon in Tahoe City, Saturday, July 11, 2026.
This is the all-time classic off-road triathlon course. Racers begin with a 1,500-meter swim from a sandy beach in Lake Tahoe, one of North America’s purest and deepest lakes.
The bike stage tests racers’ skills and fitness levels. It starts with a gradual sandy climb up Tunnel Creek. After emerging from Tunnel Creek, racers join the epic Flume Trail, which hugs the mountainside and offers stunning views of Lake Tahoe. They continue past Marlette Lake and descend a somewhat rocky and fast section of the Tahoe Rim Trail. The XTERRA, XTERRA Sprint, and XTERRA Aquabike cover 22 miles on the bike and feature approximately 4,000 feet of climbing.
The running course offers a 5K loop featuring minimal elevation gain that winds through scenic areas filled with aspens and pines. It features a few creek crossings along the way.
